| ANSWERS to FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT GLASS NAIL FILES |
FAQ: Can I really take the glass nail file on an airplane in my carry-ons?Yes. In fact when we travel to distant art shows our inventory travels with us in our carry-on bags--and we carry hundreds of nail files at a time! Many airport gift shops in the gate area (after the TSA screening stations) carry our nail files--a real boon for travelers whose metal nail files have been confiscated by security screeners.
FAQ: Are the glass nail files suitable for both artificial and natural nails?
Yes. Glass nail files work equally well on natural or artificial nails. Because the glass nail files do not leave burrs or snags in the nail, the way emery boards or metal files do, natural nails can be strengthened with regular use. For artificial nails, we recommend dipping the file in water and keeping it damp while using.
FAQ: How do I use a glass nail file on my feet? Why are they better for diabetic foot care than metal implements?
While the glass nail files are effective on dry feet, they work best right after a shower or bath, while the foot is still damp. You'll notice that the upper part of the large foot file has a heavier "grit" than the lower part. The upper part is especially effective in removing callouses. Simply "sand" over the callous and feel how it smooths your feet. For especially stubborn callouses, repeat the treatment over the course of several days. No need for razors or scissors. The callous will disappear without running the risk of cutting or tearing the foot. For tough toe nails, use the smoother end of the file and file away the excess toe nail. We also reommend using the medium-size file to loosen skin under the toe nails; simply run the tip of the medium file beneath the problem nail.
FAQ: But it's made out of glass...don't they break easily?
Our glass nail files are remarkably sturdy because they are made of tempered glass, much like eyeglasses or a car windshield. They generally do not break when dropped, although like any piece of fine glass, they will likely be damaged if they fall onto concrete or a tile floor. Occasionally a glass nail file will break--but it will never shatter! While we can't guarantee against breakage, with reasonable care, your glass nail file will last a lifetime. By reasonable care, we mean keeping the file in its matching case when not being used; protect it from being dropped on especially hard surfaces like concrete or tile; and carry the mini size in your handbag (if you prefer the medium size file, as many women do, don't let it roam free in your handbag).
FAQ: How do I clean a glass nail file?
The files are remarkably easy to keep sanitized. The files can be cleaned by washing under a faucet, or for professional use they can be sterilized with heat, liquid or UVB light.
FAQ: What size should I choose?
Eye for the Find has three sizes of the original art-glass nail file available: the 4-inch-long mini, which is ideal for the handbag; the nearly 6-inch-long medium, which is the perfect size for the bedside table or a desk drawer; and the 8-inch-long, heavyweight file for feet. Each comes in a felted case and is decorated with a handmade art-glass cabechon dichroic glass bead made by glass artists in the Pacific Northwest and affixed to a high-quality glass nail file with a permanently etched finish. All artwork and assembly is done by hand at the Eye for the Find Studio in Portland, Oregon.
FAQ: Are they suitable for dog groooming, too?
Many dog groomers have found that the glass nail files are suitable for their canine clients' toe nails. We recommend using the large foot file to smooth out the dog's toe nails. Because they are easy to sterilize, they are suitable for the professional dog groomer's needs as well as for use by dog owners.
